The Last Demolition

Moving into the final sprint to completion, there was one remaining bit of demolition work to take care of: removing the last bits of the old driveway, the concrete footing for an old fence, pieces of the sidewalk where the new water and gas lines will be run, and the old planter strip. Here’s a video showing highlights from that work:

If you look closely at the segments involving removing the fence footing and the planter strip you’ll notice something unusual: rebar. In addition, the fence footing was deeper in quite a few places than the foundation of the original house! It was clearly built for the ages. As were parts of the cap laid over the planter strip.

It’s even more impressive when you realize all that concrete work was done by the original homeowner. He clearly had very high standards for building things out of concrete.
