and tile, too. Wow, there’s a lot of stuff going into the house all of a sudden!

You learn a lot of stuff building a house. Tricks of the trade. The amazing number of decisions that have to be made, alternative finishes chosen. And how the rhythm of the construction process changes over the course of the project. A few months ago the intense activity was building the structure, so there was a lot of highly visible progress. Then came installing the infrastructure — wiring, plumbing, insulation, even the drywall — which had a similar level of effort, but not the same pace of visible progress.

Now we’ve shifted to doing the finish work, and once again there major signs of progress almost every day. Cabinetry being installed. Tile being applied. Slate floors going in. And, on top of all that, we’ve started the landscape work, with the first section of the new fencing going up.

We are really chomping at the bit to move in. That looks like it won’t happen until the middle or end of July. Which in one sense is too bad — we had originally hoped to move in at the beginning of June — but on the other hand isn’t all that much longer.
